Blogging for Language Teachers

Content and Features

The blog covers a diverse range of topics for professional development, classroom practices and teacher education. All blog posts consist of text, graphs, tables or pictures to illustrate the blogger's views. The post I read is titled 'Stand Firm, Stay Firm?' in which the blogger expresses concerns about excessive enthusiasm "about constant, continuous, never-ending professional development, improvement, skill enhancement, upgrading, learning something new, and sharing" that has gripped the modern teacher at the expense of engaging in leisure and other mind-refreshing activities. This is an interesting discussion especially for us teachers. Personally, I believe in learning new ways of doing things every chance I get. What about you, do you think sometimes we have too much CPD in our profession? Let me know what you think in the comments section below.

Target Audience

Zhenya has a unique way of engaging her readers who in turn provide her feedback through an easy-to-access comments area. Her blog has a large audience centred on language teachers, teacher trainers and others concerned with language teaching in general. I strongly recommend her blog for ELT professionals wishing to share her insights.

If you would like to read Zhenya's blog, visit https://wednesdayseminars.wordpress.com

There are many other bloggers in the ELT field that one can find very useful. Besides Zhenya, I have keenly followed Nik Peachey and Russell Stannard.

I look forward to fruitful interactions on this blog with all of you.

The video below will give you an idea of blogging for educational purposes.

  1. Hi George, the link to your video doesn't work. Why is part of it highlighted with a white background, is that on purpose? The content and review is good- just not sure about the layout

  2. Hi George. It was great to read your post. Could you check the link you have shared for a video? You could also add some labels to your blog to make it easier to navigate. Thank you.

  4. Hi George, Great that you have started with your blog - I love the rich deep red colour - very warm and friendly. I expect the background highlighting was just experimenting - perhaps it would be better to keep the highlighting for a particular purpose - for example to pick out a quotation from someone else as yours (almost) does. Your review of Zhenya's blog gives us a good idea about what it looks like but I would like to know what YOU think about the quote that you cited - do you feel overwhelmed with CPD?! It's always a good idea on a blog to share your own ideas! It would be great if the link to her blog was clickable too. For me the video worked fine and it's a really good reminder that there are other ways to get a free blog on the internet - Edublogs is focused on education so it's a great one for teachers. So a great start - well done!

  5. Hi George, your blog is so informative and the points you concluded are on-point. I think it is better if you could change your setting of the background and the colour of the fonts. Haha but if you like it that's completely fine.
